Autumn Cycling Tour: The Merida Cup in Bagua Mountain Range Kicks Off
After the summer seaside, the most anticipated cycling event of autumn is back up again!' The '2010 Bagua Mountain Range Merida Cup & Cycling Carnival' offers the highest amount of competition rewards and lucky draw prizes, receiving an enthusiastic response from the public. This year, over NT$700,000 in cash and prizes will be given out. The event will take place on December 4th and 5th at the Qingshuiyan Scout Camp in She Tou Township, Changhua. The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications invites everyone across the nation to enjoy a healthy bike ride and experience this exciting cycling carnival.
The '2010 Bagua Mountain Range Merida Cup & Cycling Carnival' is now in its 10th edition and is the only event in Taiwan that combines competition, leisure rides, industry exhibitions, new bike test rides, evening parties, and fun activities into one comprehensive cycling carnival. In recent years, the Shan Shan National Scenic Area Administration has developed various types of mountain biking trails within the scenic area, earning widespread praise from the public. The Bagua Mountain Scenic Area boasts a uniquely favorable environment for cycling and abundant tourism resources. The Evergreen Cycling Trail is especially beloved by cyclists across Taiwan as a top challenge, making Bagua Mountain a classic route. Enjoy the beautiful scenery here and create wonderful memories.
For the competition segment, this year over NT$320,000 in prize money and over NT$400,000 worth of winning prizes are planned, attracting not only top domestic riders but also Spanish rider Jose Antonio Hermida, who just won the 2010 Mountain Bike World Championship, who has gladly accepted the invitation to return to Taiwan for another challenge. To respond to the growing trend of road cycling in Taiwan, this edition of the event specially includes a road bike hill climb time trial, allowing riders to compete. For those who prefer mountain biking, there’s also an off-road mountain bike race where participants can enjoy the leisurely fun of riding through Bagua Mountain’s forest trails.
In addition, those who don’t wish to compete can also enjoy a family outing by joining the value-packed 'Cycling Leisure Ride.'
