Visit the Island of Eternal Summer: Taiwan's Travel to Guam Up 40%
Guam, known as the Island of Eternal Summer, boasts an average annual temperature of 26°C, making it a top choice for leisure and vacation among Taiwanese travelers. The Guam Visitors Bureau has long been committed to promoting the Taiwanese market. From January to October 2010, the number of travelers from Taiwan to Guam increased by as much as 40.8% compared to the same period last year. From the first International Travel Fair to this year’s event, the Guam booth has consistently been the largest in the U.S. pavilion. In the future, efforts will also be made to actively secure more flights and introduce daily services to accommodate the ever-growing number of visitors.

Located at the southernmost tip of the Mariana Islands, Guam has a population of about 170,000. Its beaches exude exotic charm, vibrant flowers bloom year-round, and it is an ideal destination for water activities and shopping. Ms. Pilar Laguana, Marketing Manager of the Guam Visitors Bureau, stated that with the relocation of U.S. military personnel to Guam, the number of travelers from Taiwan has continued to rise. It is expected that not only tourism but also business travel to Guam will grow rapidly. This year, China Airlines’ Guam route has maintained an average load factor of over 80%, reaching up to 90% between August and October. Both China Airlines and Continental Airlines have decided to operate additional flights during the 2011 Chinese New Year period, and there are hopes for increased regular flight frequencies in the future.

Laguana also pledged that the Guam Visitors Bureau will continue to deepen its presence in Taiwan. In terms of marketing strategies, large-scale brand events such as the Micronesian Carnival, the KoKo Road Race, and the Guam Food Festival will be introduced. It is believed that future visitors to Guam will be able to experience more of the local culture and discover a different side of the island.
