Pinglin is one of the tea-producing regions in northern Taiwan. Since 2006, the Pinglin Township Office has held the “Pinglin Baozhong Tea Festival” annually to promote the rich tea culture, as well as eco-tours to experience Pinglin’s natural landscapes and the charm of its old streets. This year’s Baozhong Tea Festival has added even more activities and performances. Spend NT$100 or more to enter a lucky draw for a 5-day trip to Taipei and Macau, a laptop, a camera, accommodation vouchers, and more. Everyone is invited to join in the festivities in Pinglin.

The 2010 Taipei County Pinglin Baozhong Tea Festival II will be held on December 4th & 5th, and December 11th & 12th — two consecutive Saturdays and Sundays. The events will take place at the square next to the Pinglin Tea Museum, Pinglin Old Street, and the basketball court of Pinglin Junior High School. The festival features specially themed days: December 4th’s “Tea Fragrance Fills Pinglin – A Grand Tea Ceremony Showcase,” where visitors can experience professional tea ceremonies firsthand; December 5th’s “Baozhong Tea Floral Gourmet Cooking Competition,” where dishes incorporate Baozhong tea, with the top prize reaching NT$10,000; December 11th’s “Eco Hiking Tour”; and December 12th’s “Morning Mist Hike.”

On the opening day, December 4th, there will be a Winter Tea Award Ceremony. The stage area will also feature performances over the four days, including an opening act by the Electric Three-Small-Kings, environmentally inspired music by the STAMP Eco Percussion Band, traditional tea-making demonstrations, performances by the Musee Girls Band, rock erhu, and folk songs by the North Original Mountain Cats — offering a diverse and exciting program. Beyond the main events, there will also be health-focused tea meals and local snacks related to tea, as well as nearly 100 camellia displays by Pinglin Junior High School. Shiguang Old Street will feature performances including pan flute, flute, saxophone, and street artists. Special events such as a Creative Text Message Contest and Floral Gourmet Cooking Competition will also be held. For more details, visit the official website.

To encourage spending, visitors who spend NT$100 or more during the event period can exchange their receipt for a lottery ticket. Prizes include a 5-day trip to Taipei and Macau (including flights and accommodation), laptops, high-end digital cameras, travel accommodation vouchers, leisure hot spring vouchers, and more. Daily souvenirs — commemorative teacups (limited to 2,000 per day) and camellia seedlings — will also be given out. Not only is there food and fun, but also the chance to win great prizes!
