The 2011 Michelin Restaurant Guide has been released, adding 13 new establishments in Hong Kong and Macau.

Food lovers around the world will be familiar with the little red booklet — the ultimate guide to fine dining, the Michelin Guide. Its latest edition has just been published, and the 2011 Hong Kong & Macau Michelin Guide has added 71 new restaurants, including 13 that have received Michelin stars. Many previously listed restaurants also saw changes in their star ratings.

Among them, there are two new two-star restaurants: Caprice (modern Cantonese cuisine) and 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana (Italian cuisine). One-star to two-star promotions: Celebrity Cuisine and Pierre; two-star to one-star demotions: Furama Manor in Wan Chai, Pierre, and Grand Hyatt's Dragon Phoenix; new one-star "affordable" Michelin restaurants: Ho Hung Kee, Tim Ho Wan, and Curry House. Maxim's Palace has 10 branches across Hong Kong, seven of which have earned one star.
Additionally, the 2011 Hong Kong & Macau Michelin Guide, released on December 2, includes a total of 257 restaurants and hotels from Hong Kong (215 restaurants and 42 hotels) and 52 from Macau (38 restaurants and 14 hotels). This includes 71 new restaurants and 2 newly added Hong Kong hotels, making up about a quarter of the overall 2011 list, reflecting the continuously rising standards of the culinary scene in Hong Kong and Macau.

The latest guide features many local restaurants showcasing the flavors and characteristics of Hong Kong and Macau, adding categories such as Cantonese roast meats (5 entries), dumplings (2 specialty shops), and congee (3 specialty shops). It also once again lists 50 “good quality, good value” Bib Gourmand restaurants, where you can enjoy a three-course meal for under HKD/MOP 300.
