The U.S. state of Hawaii, which shares many similarities with Taiwan, also boasts exceptional natural landscapes as part of an island-based economic development zone. The indigenous peoples of Hawaii and Taiwan both belong to the same Austronesian cultural heritage, and they hope to foster more tourism exchanges with Taiwan in the future.

The Hawaiian Senatorial Delegation, which visited Taiwan this time, arrived on the 15th. Members include Senator Kalani Enqlish, responsible for transportation, international affairs, energy, and environmental protection; Senator Will Espero, overseeing public safety, military, and government; Senator Mike Gabbard, handling education, energy, and environmental protection; Senator Glenn Wakai, focusing on technology and economic development; Senator Michelle N. Kidani, covering finance, military, public safety, and education; Senator Pohai Ryan, in charge of indigenous affairs; and Senator Clarence K. Nishihara, responsible for health and healthcare. Their scope spans multiple sectors.

During their visit, the delegation toured various parts of Taiwan and met with agencies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. They also visited the Taipei Flower Expo site to admire the beauty of international floral displays. The delegates were deeply impressed by Taiwan’s clean cities, high civic standards, and the advanced convenience of the MRT and high-speed rail. They praised Taipei’s ability to host a large-scale international exposition and expressed hope for enhanced commercial exchanges and interactions between Hawaii and Taiwan.
