The cherry blossom symbolizes purity and nobility, and is one of the most beloved flowers among people. This year’s climate has been unusual compared to previous years, especially with continuous cold fronts, causing cherry blossoms in mountainous and colder regions to bloom earlier. The New Taipei City Government has also specifically announced suitable cherry blossom viewing dates and locations for this year, offering the public more diverse options for holiday outings.

There are quite a few cherry blossom viewing spots in New Taipei City. In addition to Wulai, which is the most popular among tourists, locations such as Sanzhi, Tamsui, Pingxi, Jinshan, and Shiding also boast beautifully colorful cherry blossom spots that will vie for attention during the Lunar New Year holiday, bringing different kinds of surprises to visitors. Wulai features a wide variety of cherry blossoms including Beni-shidare, Yoshino, and Somei-yoshino, which bloom in turns, with the best viewing season being from February to March. Along the mountain ring road within the Wulai Scenic Area, at the Waterfall Park, and along the Hot Spring Street (Lover's Path), you can find cherry blossoms.

The cherry blossom spots in Tamsui are respectively Cherry Blossom Avenue and Wuji Tianyuan Temple. Cherry Blossom Avenue can be reached by heading from Xuefu Road in front of Tamsui MRT Station toward Yanshan Temple and then following Dengguo Road up to Shulin Kou, spanning approximately 3 kilometers. The blooming period is around February, when the mountain cherry blossoms and Yoshino cherries create a stunning contrast with the rustic countryside scenery. Wuji Tianyuan Temple is located in the center of Beixinzhuang on Provincial Highway 101. In mid to late March, when the Yoshino cherry blossoms are in full bloom, they attract cherry blossom enthusiasts from all over, creating an unprecedented spectacle.

Sanzhi has been planting cherry trees for nearly 15 years, with currently over 15,000 trees covering a total length of nearly 70 kilometers, including along Dahu Road and Qingshan Road. Various species such as mountain cherry, Yoshino, and Somei-yoshino are planted here, reaching their peak bloom in early February. Around the ancestral home of the Li family in Pingxi’s Shifen and the surrounding hills leading toward Ruifang, there are also many cherry blossoms; Jinshan mainly has mountain cherry blossoms, while in the Liugu area, Qifeng Shi Hot Springs, and Qingshui Creek Camping Area, the blooming flowers present striking reds and whites—perfect for viewing. In the Shiding District Office’s area, the entire stretch of County Road 47 heading toward Getou, especially around the 4k mark at Wenshan Bridge, is fully planted with cherry blossoms, making it especially beautiful.

In addition, the 2011 Cherry Blossom Festival held in Xinyi Township, Nantou County, grandly opened on January 12, featuring performances of traditional Chinese music and indigenous dance during the event period. Yangmingshan, Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, Aowanda, and Alishan also offer beautiful cherry blossom seasons to enjoy. Interested individuals can plan trips and flower viewings during the Lunar New Year holiday.
