Taiwan’s western region is rich in diverse types of jade, beloved by both domestic and international tourists. The native jade boasts a warm luster and uniquely distinctive patterns. After being skillfully carved by artisans, it transforms into artworks that embody poetic beauty. The Western Coast Jade Festival “Fifteen Years of Jade Art Legacy” is being held at the Miaoli County Government International Cultural and Tourism Bureau until January 23. The organizers have prepared 1,000 polished pieces of Western Coast jade to give away to the public. Everyone is welcome to come and appreciate the beauty of Taiwanese jade.

This jade exhibition showcases the true, good, and beautiful artistry of intricately carved unique jade from Taiwan’s western coast. For example, the flower-green jade crab displays delicate, lifelike colors; the purple-flower jade sculpture of the Contemplative Guanyin exudes serenity with subtle movement, solemn yet gentle in texture, with a smooth feel. Over a thousand exquisitely carved works display their most beautiful sides.

70% to 80% of the jade from Taiwan’s western coast is produced in Hakka ancestral lands, a natural treasure bestowed upon the Hakka people by nature. Unfortunately, the Hakka cultural background lacks a tradition of jade culture. To fill this gap in jade art and culture, break through traditional concepts of jade legacy, and develop rich, realistic local creativity along with refined jade craftsmanship, this exhibition also includes five jade treasure-hunting activities, each with 25 to 30 spots available, with on-site registration accepted before each Friday.
