To further engage with international tourists, the Yamanashi Prefectural Tourism Promotion Organization (a public interest incorporated foundation) and the Japan Mt. Fuji Association are hosting the promotional event “Celebrating Lunar New Year at Fuji-Q Highland 2011” during the long Lunar New Year holiday period. The event will take place from February 4 (Friday) to February 6 (Sunday) in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, at Fuji-Q Highland.
Fuji-Q Highland in Yamanashi Prefecture holds 14 Guinness World Records.
The event includes a mochi-making party, free matcha tasting, a prefectural product lottery, taiko drum performances by local groups, and street performances. Participating organizations include Yamanashi Prefecture, Kofu City, Fujiyoshida City, Kitakoma District, Fuefuki City, Nishiyoshino Village, Minobu Village, Narusawa Village, the Isawa Onsen Ryokan Cooperative Association, and the Yamanashi Prefectural Tourism Promotion Organization (a public interest incorporated foundation).
Many Asian countries with traditions of celebrating the Lunar New Year see large numbers of foreign tourists visiting Yamanashi Prefecture during the holiday. Especially in China, since the introduction of individual tourist visas to Japan last year and the lifting of related restrictions, the cumulative number of Chinese tourists visiting Japan from January to October this year has reached an all-time high.
From February 4 to 6, Fuji-Q Highland will host Lunar New Year festivities to welcome international visitors.
Fuji-Q Highland boasts the world’s highest drop (79m) on its roller coaster FUJIYAMA, which spans a total length of 2,045 meters. In 1997, the park’s roller coasters set four world records recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records. Other attractions include a pirate ship, a transparent observation gondola, the Execution House, and dozens of other rides, making it a must-visit destination for many tourists coming to Yamanashi Prefecture.
