New Taipei City unveils its first eco-friendly cultural and artistic green building

Tamsui Old Street has a new landmark—the newly established “Tamsui Art Workshop,” which is New Taipei City’s first cultural space integrating local humanities, artistic aesthetics, and the natural ecological environment. This breathing green cultural building regularly hosts special art exhibitions and offers free admission. The inaugural exhibition invites domestic and international artists to present works under the theme “Art Tree Flourishing,” highlighting its location by the Tamsui River and mountains, and its close connection to nature.

The “Tamsui Art Workshop” preserved the tiles from the original site’s demolition and incorporated them into the architectural design. It also uses recycled or fully recyclable materials and employs green building techniques such as photovoltaic solar panels and shading systems to optimize energy use. Rainwater is collected from the roof and treated before being reused within the building. Both in hardware and functionality, the design maximizes the use of “green” resources to achieve the highest level of energy conservation and carbon reduction.

The inaugural exhibition “Art Tree Flourishing” emphasizes the connection between people and the environment. It features 12 outstanding domestic and international artists from the UK, France, Spain, Japan, and emerging Taiwanese talents, all engaging in dialogue with nature through their works. They create using recycled bottle caps, resin, wood, bamboo, and other natural or technological materials. Each piece reflects, contemplates, and gives back to nature; through the soft power of artistic aesthetics, it prompts viewers to reflect on the inseparable relationship between themselves and the environment. In recent years, the government has promoted the flagship “Tamsui Estuary Art Network” project, integrating tourism and cultural resources. From MacKay Memorial Square to the rear section of Zhongzheng Road, it has gradually become the “Tamsui Art Boulevard.” This weekend, why not visit and immerse yourself in the rich artistic atmosphere?
