During the Japanese colonial period, Asahi Hot Springs was known as “Asahi Onsen” due to its east-facing location. It boasts Taiwan’s only undersea hot springs, a rare phenomenon also found only in Japan and Italy. The formation of these underwater hot springs occurs when seawater seeps deep beneath the island, is heated by geothermal energy, and then rises to the surface due to increased pressure.

There are currently three circular pools, each with varying water temperatures ranging from cool to very hot. The hottest can reach around 90 degrees Celsius. Visitors can choose the pool that best suits their preference and enjoy a truly distinctive outdoor bathing experience. Soaking at night offers an even more magical atmosphere — gaze up at the sparkling starry sky, listen to the soothing sounds of waves crashing on the shore, and hum along to the gentle tunes of the “Green Island Serenade.” It’s the perfect way to wash away the day’s stress, a moment of bliss that’s hard to beat.
