Taipei Shopping Card Now Accepting Applications, Launches Valentine’s Day Exclusive Merchant Offers

What do women hope to receive most on Valentine’s Day? It's a question that stumps many men. As Valentine’s Day draws near, the Taipei City Government has launched the “2012 Taipei Shopping Card,” featuring in August an exclusive “Valentine’s Selection of Featured Merchants.” Based on online voting where participants chose the items women prefer most on Valentine’s — including accessories, romantic dinners, afternoon tea, and desserts — the program introduces 39 specially selected merchants. Cardholders can enjoy special discounts at these locations.

For accessories, the brand Lucy's, loved by many celebrities, is offering a free colorful jelly bracelet with any purchase (regardless of amount) on August 18 and 19 when paying with the Taipei Shopping Card. The affordable, self-designed watch brand Sen Shi Watches, which insists on using Japanese movements and Taiwanese design with an emphasis on style and quality, is offering a 30% discount on all watches in-store with the card (until August 31), along with 20% off on various international brands.

Among food merchants, the “Fuh Jun Hai Yue Grand Hotel” is offering a complimentary French Spring Chicken with King Oyster Mushroom Red Wine Sauce set meal (originally 638 TWD) for the second person when two people dine together and present the card. For fans of Japanese BBQ or izakayas, “Akuen Yakitori” gives a free red wine sour upon presentation of the card. The 6,000 TWD Tomahawk steak is available at a discounted price of just 1,500 TWD with the card. “Mango Cha Cha,” the delicious mango shaved ice enjoyed by NBA player Jeremy Lin during his visit to Taiwan, offers a free large cup of mango juice with purchases over 500 TWD. The uniquely named ice cream shop “Emei Ice Café” provides a free pudding when you spend 100 TWD on ice cream and pay 1 TWD more.

The “Taipei Shopping Card” is a promotional campaign continuously run by the Taipei City Government this year. Starting today (the 16th), you can log onto the official website, fill out the required information, and print your shopping card, or scan the QR code at participating merchants to download the card from the official website. By registering your receipts on the website, you can receive merchant coupons, with a chance to win a new HTC smartphone each month, and a chance to win a grand prize of one million TWD at the end of the campaign. From August 18, you can pick up physical cards at Taipei Underground Mall Administrative Center, Wellcome & SOGO participating merchants, Ximending event venues, and Lion Travel North, North-Taipei, and Keelung branches.
