Thousands Hike Shuangxi’s Diaoshan Mountain as New Taipei Unveils Six Autumn Hiking Trails

In the cool early autumn weather, New Taipei City Government has introduced six hiking trails perfect for fall outings, following the five springtime routes. These include the Shiding Yong’an Trail, Pinglin Fern Trail, Jinshan Shitoushan Park Trail, Ruifang Jinzipai Ancient Trail, Yingge’s Yinggeshi Trail, and Shuangxi’s Diaoshan Ancient Trail. The city has also combined these with nearby attractions such as the Ceramics Museum, Jinshan Old Street, and Houzhuang Cat Village to create six recommended itineraries. Additionally, on October 27, an event will be held on Diaoshan Ancient Trail, calling on a thousand energetic youths and Olympic athlete Zeng Lucheng to hike together. There will be lucky draws and a local organic produce market. From 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM on the day of the event, a shuttle bus will also depart from Mudan Railway Station to the trailhead.

Each of the six recommended hiking trails has its own unique appeal. The Jinshan Shitoushan Park Trail can be paired with nearby hot spring resorts and old street snacks, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenic Candlestick Islets while soaking in Jinshan’s high-quality hot springs during the cool autumn. Meanwhile, New Taipei’s famous Houzhuang Cat Village and one of Taiwan’s three major fan-shaped train stations, Mudan Railway Station, are included in the Ruifang Jinzipai and Shuangxi Diaoshan Ancient Trail routes. These connect to attractions such as the Houzhuang Coal Mine Museum, Jiufen Old Street, the Thirteen Layers of Ancient Trees, and Shuangxi Old Street, enabling hikers to not only get fit but also explore local sites and delve into the area’s cultural heritage. The Shuangxi Diaoshan Ancient Trail also offers sweeping views of autumn silvergrass fields, and reaching Fude Temple allows for breathtaking mountain and sea vistas.

Furthermore, from now until October 30, the public can use the New Taipei City Hiking and Trekking Trail Information platform to design creative hiking itineraries or travel journals and upload them to the experience-sharing section of the New Taipei City Hiking and Trekking website. The top 200 participants will have the chance to win a limited-edition “New Taipei City Hiking Journey Notebook.” The list of winners will be announced on the official website on November 5.
