Take a hot air balloon ride to welcome the New Year！ Show Lo and Wan Fang to perform at Taitung’s countdown event

 

Organized by Taitung County Government, the “Embrace Beautiful Taitung. Kick Off the Happiness of Year 102 – Taitung County 2013 Countdown Party” will deliver the most impressive lineup of performers in Taitung’s countdown history. The party kicks off at 8:00 p.m. on December 31, set against the iconic international landmark of Taitung Seaside Park. The stage comes alive with hosts Hsu Chieh-Hui and Wu Yi-Pei, performances led by top-tier artists such as Mandopop king Show Lo and queen Wan Fang, an iPad raffle, charity wish card activities, and concludes with Taiwan’s only hot air balloon launch ceremony and a spectacular fireworks display of over 3,000 shots.

This year’s Taitung countdown features an all-star cast, with entertainment veteran Hsu Chieh-Hui and Wu Yi-Pei hosting. Performers include the youthful and energetic “MOMO Family,” Taiwan’s first female magician “Chen Bing-Qian,” the internationally award-winning “Acapella O.K. Choir,” the hard-rocking “Boxing Punch’s Band,” the warm-voiced diva “Luo Mei-Ling,” Mandopop love song queen “Wan Fang,” and finally, the cross-strait superstar “Show Lo,” who has taken the mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong by storm in recent years, will serve as the closing and countdown guest. Show Lo is expected to collaborate with three different groups for a performance lasting nearly an hour, akin to a mini solo concert, treating Taitung fans to an unforgettable auditory feast.

 

Unlike many top Taiwanese singers who choose to perform in mainland China for high-paying commercial gigs, Show Lo personally proposed to his agent this year that he wanted to stay in Taiwan for the countdown. As a result, he will be performing live with his personally selected band, the Puli Da Band, featuring two additional female backing vocalists. He has also rearranged many classic songs, promising a diverse musical experience. Additionally, dancers from the local Taitung group “Makapahay Cultural and Artistic Troupe” will join him for some songs, performing unique indigenous dances that showcase the vibrant local culture of eastern Taiwan.

In addition to the stellar lineup, this year’s Taitung countdown specially combines three elements: charity, lucky draws, and a hot air balloon. Members of the public can exchange five receipts (of any amount) issued in Taitung County between November and December 2012 for one wish lottery card at the event service booth from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on December 31. They can write their New Year’s wishes on the card and drop it into the lottery box. The grand prize includes five iPads and specialty local products from Taitung. Finally, the organizers will place these wish cards inside a specially made hot air balloon, which will ascend against the backdrop of a stunning fireworks display of over 3,000 shots, symbolizing the launch of collective hopes for the new year. All receipts collected during the event will be donated to the Taitung Family Service Center. Moreover, on the evening of January 1, the day after the countdown, at 6:00 p.m., Taitung County Government will partner with Taiwan Television to broadcast the “2013 Vienna New Year’s Concert” live.
