The Palace Museum Anime Carnival National Treasures Digital Exhibition Debuts in Taichung

The National Palace Museum and the Taichung City Government have jointly organized the “Palace Museum Anime Carnival” digital special exhibition, which will run from now until March 16th, every day from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM at the Activity Center of Daya Elementary School in Daya District, Taichung City. Admission is free, allowing the public to enjoy the impressive digital achievements of national treasures. The exhibition is divided into four major zones: “Decoding Chinese Characters,” “National Treasures Mobilization,” “Ancient Paintings Up Close,” and “Super Map,” featuring a total of 12 digital works, six of which are multimedia interactive exhibits. In addition to showcasing highlights from the Palace Museum’s collections of calligraphy, artifacts, paintings, and books, visitors can also engage directly through a multi-sensory experience—using their eyes, ears, hands, and feet—to discover the details of the artifacts and enjoy the fun of interacting with them.

In the “Decoding Chinese Characters” calligraphy zone, the “Mao Gong Ding Chinese Character Interactive Table” will present the evolution of Chinese characters in animated form. Replicas of national treasure masterpieces such as the “Jin Dynasty Wang Xizhi – A Happy Snow Clearing Up” and the “Song Dynasty Su Shi – Cold Food Observance” will also be on display. The “National Treasures Mobilization” artifacts zone will screen the award-winning series “National Treasures Mobilization,” which won the Grand Prize at the Tokyo International Animation Festival and the FIAMP Shock Award. There will also be a specially designed multimedia interactive piece, “Blue and White Doucai,” that allows visitors to learn about the porcelain-making process—from the blank body, cobalt application, glazing, to coloring. The “Ancient Paintings Up Close” painting zone will feature a 12-meter “Digital Version of Along the River During the Qingming Festival” and a digital interactive work inspired by the “Yuan Dynasty Zhao Mengfu – Autumn Colors at Que and Hua.” Classic works such as the “Song Dynasty Fan Kuan – Travelers Among Mountains and Streams,” “Song Dynasty Guo Xi – Early Spring,” and “Song Dynasty Emperor Huizong – Wax Plum and Mountain Birds” will also be displayed as reproductions. The “Super Map” literature zone will showcase the large interactive floor that was hugely popular at Taipei’s Huashan 1914 Creative Park, allowing visitors of all ages to touch the starry sky, draw constellations, listen to Father Ferdinand Verbiest’s narration, and run alongside mythical beasts in an ancient world.

The National Palace Museum stated that to enhance educational outreach, from January 11th to March 14th, a series of six lectures will be held at Eslite Bookstore’s Yuandao Branch and Zhongyou Branch in Taichung. Digital art curators and senior guides from the Palace Museum will share insights on topics including “How to Appreciate Chinese Painting,” “The Azure Haze of Rain and the Colors of Doucai,” “Calligraphy—The Secrets of Chinese Characters,” and “New Media—Travel Through Interaction.” For more details, visit the official website: www.npm.gov.tw/exh102/animecarnival.
