Float parade and mass performances: Macau welcomes the Year of the Dragon in style

Planning an overseas trip during the holiday season but still want to celebrate a vibrant Lunar New Year? The Macau Government Tourism Office will host a large-scale outdoor Lunar New Year celebration called the “Year of the Dragon Float Parade” on February 12 (the third day of the Lunar New Year) and February 16 (the seventh day). The event includes a float parade, mass performances, fireworks, and float exhibitions to ring in the New Year with visitors. The two opening ceremonies for the “Year of the Dragon Float Parade” will take place at 8:00 PM on February 12 and 16, starting respectively at Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Nam Van and Avenida da Ilha Verde.

The “Year of the Dragon Float Parade” on February 12 will feature ten floats parading through the streets, with nearly a thousand performers from twenty-eight local associations putting on artistic shows along the route. The parade will begin at Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Nam Van, pass through Estrada de Carlos da Maia, and head toward Estrada Almeida Ribeiro. At 1:00 AM, there will be stage performances at Sai Van Lake Square. When the parade arrives at Sai Van Lake Square, some performance groups will also take the stage. Fireworks will be launched at 10:00 PM. Additional lighting will be installed along the parade route, and screens will be set up on Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Nam Van. Live coverage will also be broadcast via screens at Avenida de Pedro Nolasco da Silva and The Venetian Macao Cotai Expo to allow the public to enjoy the entire exciting parade.

 

The second parade on February 16 will also feature ten floats, starting from Avenida da Ilha Verde and ending at Rua do Mercado, with stage performances held at Jardim Municipal da Rua do Ouvidor Arriaga. The ten floats participating in the February 16 parade will be exhibited at Sai Van Lake Square and Tap Seac Square from February 12 to 24, with their illuminated decorations lit up from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM each evening.
