The Aogu Wetland has established local guides and opened up guided tour reservations to the public.

The Chiayi Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau, in its efforts to shape Aogu Wetland Forest Park into an ecotourism destination with environmental education value, commissioned a professional team to carry out the “Aogu Wetland Forest Park Ecotourism Promotion and Guidance Plan.” After eight months of guide training, 21 local residents passed the examination. On January 29, they were certified at the park’s service center (Dongshi Nature Ecology Exhibition Hall), officially forming the park’s ecotourism interpretation service team. Public reservations are now being accepted.

Aogu Wetland is Taiwan’s only large coastal wetland that is not affected by tides. Designated under the Wildlife Conservation Act as an important wildlife habitat, it provides abundant food sources and a safe, undisturbed environment for wildlife—especially migratory waterbirds. The park’s diverse landscapes, including farmland, woodlands, grass marshes, tidal flats, and expansive waters, create varied habitats that attract approximately 250 species of wild birds, including raptors such as black-winged kites, black kites, ospreys, and Chinese sparrowhawks, as well as various land and water birds. These species reside here in different seasons, with the number of bird species accounting for over 40% of Taiwan’s total avian population. Visitors can easily observe the diverse behaviors of waterbirds from the flood control roads. As a result, Aogu Wetland is not only a must-visit spot for birdwatchers in Taiwan but also a world-renowned birdwatching destination for international professionals.

 

In addition to helping group visitors plan their itineraries, the Aogu Wetland Forest Park Ecotourism Interpretation Service Team also offers paid guided tours. Each guide is a locally trained and certified interpreter by the Chiayi Forest District Office. They can lead visitors to gain an in-depth understanding of Aogu Wetland’s natural ecological landscape as well as the cultural charm of the surrounding communities.
