Lunar New Year Culture Walk & Stamp Collection with Zhu Ming Artwork Gift in New Taipei

Just two days away is the most important Lunar New Year holiday for locals. Where would you like to go for a “culture walk” with family and friends to enjoy a fulfilling and fun Lunar New Year? The New Taipei City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs will soon host the “2013 New Taipei City Culture Walk & Fun!” event, combining museums and cultural venues across New Taipei City. Starting from February 10, the first day of the Lunar New Year, these venues will open their doors one after another, inviting the public to enjoy a creative culture walk at museums — view exhibitions, enjoy theatrical performances, or participate in DIY experience classes. Visitors can also purchase ingenious, fun, and diverse cultural and creative products as festive gifts, and take part in the “Stamp Collection Gift Giveaway” activity. By collecting stamps, participants can redeem different gifts based on the number of stamps collected, with the top prize being a replica of the internationally renowned sculptor Zhu Ming’s artwork “Humanity Series – Queue.”

Lin Chien-chi, Director of the New Taipei City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs, said that according to traditional customs, people choose an auspicious time and direction on the first day of the Lunar New Year to go out for a walk, using the “culture walk” method to wish for all the best and great fortune in the new year. During this Lunar New Year holiday, the Zhu Ming Art Museum in Jinshan, New Taipei City, the Li Tianlu Puppetry Museum in Sanzhi, and the Xinpingsi Coal Mine Museum in Pingxi will open on February 10, the first day of the Lunar New Year. Meanwhile, thirteen public and private museums under the New Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs — including the Sanxia Twelve Ancestors Museum, the Gold Museum, the Tamsui Historic Museum, the Yingge Ceramics Museum, the National Heritage Site Lin Ben Yuan Family Mansion, the Pinglin Tea Museum, and the Fuzhong 15 – New Taipei Animation Story House — will only be closed on New Year’s Eve and the first day of the Lunar New Year, reopening on February 11, the second day of the Lunar New Year, to welcome visitors. Additionally, the Xindian History Museum, Xinzhuang Arts and Cultural Center, and the World Religion Museum will open on February 13, the fourth day of the Lunar New Year.

To encourage the public to visit various museums for a culture walk, the Department of Cultural Affairs has planned the “2013 New Taipei City Culture Walk & Fun – Stamp Collection Gift Giveaway” event, running from February 10 to February 17. The public can pick up stamp collection DMs at 20 public and private museums in New Taipei City. By collecting stamps from three museums, participants can redeem one “2013 New Taipei City Culture Walk & Fun Folder.” Collecting seven stamps allows you to exchange for a “Gold Brick USB” (4GB) worth NT$490 from the Gold Museum. With ten stamps, you can get a “New Taipei City Museum Journey Backpack” worth nearly NT$1,000. Fifteen stamps can be exchanged for a creative “Wenchang Pen” set worth over NT$2,000. Seventeen stamps earn you a Yingge Ceramics Museum “Tea Appreciation Set” worth NT$5,000. Collecting all 20 museum stamps makes you eligible for the grand prize — a replica of internationally acclaimed sculptor Zhu Ming’s artwork “Humanity Series – Queue,” worth NT$20,000.

To celebrate the arrival of the Lunar New Year, many museums and cultural venues have organized a variety of festive activities, including the “Snake Pattern Welcomes Spring at Sanxia Twelve Ancestors Museum,” the “2013 Bonding with Jinguashi Shrine – Family Prayer for the Lunar New Year” at the Gold Museum, the “Snakes Come for a Spring Stroll at Tamsui Historic Museum,” the “Snake-Shaped Carving Hands” at the Yingge Ceramics Museum, the “Lin Garden Joyfully Greets the Golden Snake Year” at the National Heritage Site Lin Ben Yuan Family Mansion, the “Welcoming Spring Blessings to the Tea Museum” at the Pinglin Tea Museum, and the “Animation Opens Joy for the Snake Year” at Fuzhong 15 – New Taipei Animation Story House. These diverse New Year activities allow visitors to play with pottery, taste tea, admire chrysanthemums, sample snake-patterned cookies, climb shrines for blessings, and more, making the Lunar New Year celebration vibrant and enriching.
