Kaohsiung Opera "Anytime Door" – Free Traditional Performances

Organized by the National Center for Traditional Arts, the "Opera Anytime Door" will take place at the Gangshan Cultural Center from March 1 to 24, featuring events and performances over 24 consecutive days. Participating groups include the Taiwan Bangzi Opera Troupe, Kaohsiung Opera Troupe, Jinfeifeng Puppet Theater Troupe, and Kaohsiung Shadow Puppet Theater Troupe, among 10 traditional drama troupes. The program includes 38 educational outreach performances, 4 special performances, and 4 traditional opera workshops. All events except the workshops are free to attend.

The art education outreach activities align with the Kaohsiung City Bureau of Education's “Arts in the Countryside” initiative, offering diverse courses in various performance genres such as glove puppetry, TV puppetry, Taiwanese opera, Bangzi opera, shadow puppetry, and rod puppetry. Special performances on March 2, 9, 16, and 23 will feature rod puppetry “The Failing Tiger Aunt,” Bangzi opera “The Money Is Moving Out?!”, Taiwanese opera “The Spoiled Princess,” and shadow puppetry “Playing with Lights, Dancing Shadows – Tales Through Time.” Tickets can be redeemed at the Gangshan Tax Office of the Kaohsiung National Tax Bureau with invoices from January and February.

 

The workshop courses feature masters such as Liao Qiongzhi and Wang Anqi. In addition to insightful lectures, there will be practical teaching sessions by troupe performers “without holding back,” with each session costing 600 NTD.
