Parent-child rice planting fun—sign up now, just $150 per person

To allow parents and children to experience farming life firsthand, the Agriculture and Food Agency under the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, will host the “Big and Little Farmers’ Rice Planting Fun” rice planting event on March 16 and 17 in Xihu Township, Miaoli County. There will be one morning session and one afternoon session each day, totaling four sessions. Each session accommodates 100 people, aiming to recruit 400 participants in total to get their hands dirty in the fields of Xihu Township, Miaoli County, experiencing farm life. The cost per person is $150.

Due to changing dietary habits, many people no longer eat rice as their staple food. To help the public rediscover traditional rice culture and establish proper nutritional understanding of rice, the Agriculture and Food Agency’s rice planting activity will be led by organic farming expert Zhang Zhijie from Miaoli County. Participants will learn about Taiwan’s rice, experience planting in organic paddies, make fragrant and delicious rice balls by hand, and even create DIY creative rice art. In addition, children will be taken to explore rural landscapes and traditional sanheyuan (traditional Chinese courtyard houses) rarely seen in cities. There will also be interactive games and lucky draws on-site. Registration is open from now until March 12, and participating families will also receive organic commemorative rice.
