Taiwan's Sandboard Season World Champions Showcase Skills in Kenting

The "2013 Taiwan Sandboard Season Exile Taiwan Skimboards Sandboard Exchange Competition," jointly organized by Pingtung County Government and Exile Skimboards Taiwan, will take place on March 23 and 24 at Kenting Bay. The event will feature Sam Stinnett, the men’s world sandboarding champion from the United States, and Keiao Bucasas, the women’s world champion, who will join top athletes from Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and other countries, as well as local Taiwanese sandboarding talents, to share skills and exchange techniques, showcasing rare and spectacular sandboarding moves.

The Pingtung County Government’s Department of Tourism and Communication noted that Kenting boasts unique natural advantages, especially with its wide and flat sandy beaches at Kenting Bay, making it highly suitable for shallow water sandboarding activities. Since the county government first collaborated with the Hengchun Peninsula Tourism Industry Alliance and Exile Skimboards Taiwan to host the sandboarding season in 2011, it has continuously attracted many sandboarding enthusiasts from Southeast Asia to experience the sport in Taiwan. Therefore, the county hopes to enhance Pingtung’s international tourism visibility by organizing ongoing international exchange competitions and inviting world-class sandboarders to participate.

 

This exchange competition has drawn over 80 domestic and international sandboarding talents. On March 23, the sandboarding exchange competition will be held, divided into men’s, women’s, and masters categories. The men’s division alone has 71 participants, making it the most competitive, including two elementary school students aged 10 and 11 who will challenge older competitors. On March 24, international athletes will provide demonstrations and lessons. Everyone is welcome to come and watch, and witness the skills and flair of the top players.
