Whale and dolphin watching off Guishan Island from just NT$700 per person

As spring returns and the sea turns azure, the northeastern waters boast the unique ecological resources of Guishan Island, making it home to Taiwan’s most renowned whale-watching activities. From April 13 to May 26, the Yilan County Government and the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration will jointly launch special whale-watching packages, including 2-in-1 and 3-in-1 tours that combine whale watching, island circumnavigation, and island landing. Prices start at just NT$700 per person.

The waters around Guishan Island are rich in whale and dolphin species, with up to 17 types frequently spotted, including large populations of spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, striped dolphins, and false killer whales. The optimal whale and dolphin watching season runs from April to the end of September. Local operators have jointly launched a series of discounted experience packages, including a 3-in-1 tour (whale watching, island circumnavigation, and island landing) for NT$1,200 per person, a 2-in-1 tour (whale watching and island circumnavigation) for NT$700 per person, an 800 NT$ 3-in-1 package and 500 NT$ 2-in-1 package for children aged 3–12, and just a NT$300 insurance fee for children under 3. Professional guides on board provide themed talks on “Cultural Guishan,” “Conservation of Guishan,” and “Whales and Dolphins of Guishan,” offering visitors comprehensive insights into marine ecology.

In addition, during the 2013 "Whale Wonder Voyage" Guishan Island whale-watching event, every Wednesday will be designated as a "Charity Voyage Day" (April 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15, 22), with a total of six trips.
