Hualien Hot Air Balloon Soaring Season Opens on June 22 with Free Experience in the Afternoon

This summer, the skies are bustling with activity. Not only is Taitung hosting an International Hot Air Balloon Festival, and Kaohsiung’s Chengcing Lake launching a city hot air balloon event, but Hualien is also joining in the fun by holding the “2013 International Hot Air Balloon Hualien Soaring Season” from June 22 to September 1. The 72-day event will take place at the Dafengdafu Plain Forest Park in Guangfu Township. On the opening days of June 22 and 23, 15 hot air balloons will make a vibrant appearance. Additionally, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on June 22 and from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM on June 23, the public can enjoy free experiences. In addition to tethered hot air balloon rides, there will also be free flight performances. Visitors can take helicopter rides for aerial tours, watch light aircraft performance shows, and even take part in activities such as paragliding to light up Hualien’s skyline.

The hot air balloon ride experience lasts five minutes and costs NT$500. Flights are available daily during two time slots: from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM and from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The park also features a hot air balloon flight pavilion integrating digital imaging technology, as well as a family water play area, a park train, ox-cart rides, and rural horseback riding activities. These aim to offer visitors from all over the chance to rediscover this beautiful pearl of the Huatung Valley from a breathtaking 360-degree aerial view. Guests can fully enjoy the park while immersing themselves in the beautiful and pleasant natural environment of the valley, discovering new forms of inspiration.

After the official launch of the Hualien Soaring Season, visitors can take the opportunity to explore nearby tourist attractions in central Hualien. Guangfu Township itself boasts a tourist sugar factory, a wetland ecological park, and Taiwan’s largest indigenous tribal villages, Taipaq and Matai’an. To the north, Fenglin Township is a Hakka stronghold, where the Hakka Cultural Museum and old tobacco barns offer opportunities for deep cultural exploration. To the south, Ruisui Township provides leisure activities such as hot springs, dairy farming, and rafting. Further south in Yuli and Fuli, visitors can admire fields of golden daylilies. Hualien’s diverse summer offerings are sure to meet the varied travel needs of all visitors.
