EVA Air’s Star Alliance branding ad has generated ongoing buzz since its release. From the NT$30 million fee for Takeshi Kaneshiro’s appearance and his mature-guy persona capturing audience attention, to the ad’s filming spots—including not just Paris, France and Nara, Japan, but also the final outdoor location shown at the end of the ad—Brown Avenue in Chishang, Taitung. The serene and pristine rural scenery has not only drawn immense interest, but also, with Taitung’s recent hot air balloon carnival craze, visitor numbers have jumped by 20% in a short time. With the summer vacation and peak travel season approaching, the number of visitors is expected to rise even further.

Brown Avenue is located in Chishang Township, Taitung County. It’s a country road without any power poles, offering especially clear and expansive views. In 2006The Brown Café (Brown Café) commercial was filmed here, and the endless rice paddies left an unforgettable impression—ever since, it’s been called “Brown Avenue.” In recent years, road signs have been put up so visitors can clearly know they’ve arrived at this idyllic, beautiful field road.Lush green rice paddies in spring and summer are especially refreshing, while in summer and autumn, as the fields begin to turn golden yellow, they offer a completely different charm.

Cyclists especially love to linger and weave through here, much like the scene in the ad where Takeshi Kaneshiro leisurely pedals through the fields. There’s a sense of peaceful leisure, and the image of Takeshi resting and sipping tea under a big tree at the end of the ad—located at the end of Brown Avenue, known as the “Road to Heaven”—has gone viral. That cute, round, large tree has instantly become a hit, with visitors flocking to take photos and even reenact Takeshi’s tea break under the tree. Some netizens even joke about renaming Brown Avenue as “Takeshi Kaneshiro Avenue.” Thanks to this ad, the beauty of Chishang in Taitung has not only caught the attention of people in Taiwan, but with the global airing of the ad and online shares, Taitung’s scenery has once again gained widespread recognition.
