“AKB48’s Fun Trip in Taipei” Features Ximending and Beitou
Last updated 2026-09-26 — To promote 101 tourist highlights in Taipei to Japanese travelers, the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism invited members of the popular Japanese girl group AKB48 to film a travel show titled “AKB48’s Fun Trip in Taipei” from July 1 to July 4.

According to AKS Co., Ltd., the management company of AKB48, no event or filming session—either in Japan or overseas—that the group has participated in since its inception has lasted more than three days. This marks the first exception as three members will be traveling overseas to film a four-day, three-night program. Ever since receiving the invitation from the Taipei City Government for a 4-day, 3-night shoot late last year, hundreds of AKB48 members expressed strong interest in visiting Taiwan and hoped to promote the city to Japanese audiences, showcasing the freshest and most exciting side of Taipei.

The three selected members—Katakura Yuka, Kikuchi Ayaka, and Abe Maria—actively competed for the opportunity to film in Taipei. Abe Maria stated that she is a big eater who aims to try delicious food from around the world, and she has long wanted to taste Taipei’s cuisine. Kikuchi Ayaka, who loves beauty, heard about Taipei’s unique beauty remedies that can make you laugh and cry, and was determined to experience them firsthand. Katakura Yuka has visited Taipei many times before and is touched by the city’s warm hospitality. She insisted on being the tour guide for the other two, so they could all enjoy the best of Taipei together.

The three members visiting Taiwan are key figures within AKB48’s main team and also align with the show’s three major themes. For example, they will experience “Taipei with the Warmth of Home” at sites like the Mei Ting, Bopiliao, and Qingtian Street, search for “Taipei That Makes You Beautiful” in Beitou’s hot spring area, and personally enjoy “Taipei’s Gastronomic Feast” at Raohe Tourist Night Market. It is hoped that through the broadcast of the show, Japanese travelers will gain a deeper understanding of Taipei and eventually fall in love with the city.

The main filming locations for “AKB48’s Fun Trip in Taipei” include the Beitou hot spring area, Raohe Tourist Night Market, and Ximending. Each of the three members will explore what they consider to be their own “life highlights” in Taipei, then come together to experience the most touching aspects of the city. Through Taipei’s delicious food, beautiful sights, warm human interactions, and the blend of modern and traditional elements found in this metropolis, they will discover the incredible charm of Taipei. The show is scheduled to air in Japan in late August.
