The spectacle of the Yellow Rubber Duck in Kaohsiung makes CNN Travel’s headline news

The Yellow Rubber Duck (Rubber Duck), a symbol of love and peace, docked at Kaohsiung’s Glory Pier on September 19, attracting huge crowds of duck-watchers. Following extensive coverage by international media such as the Associated Press and Agence France-Presse of the opening event, CNN Travel also featured it prominently on its official website on September 24. Kaohsiung City Government’s Information Bureau Director Lai Jui-long, in an interview with CNN reporter Maggie, said that Kaohsiung’s boundless enthusiasm moved the designer Florentijn Hofman, leading to the grand event of the Yellow Rubber Duck’s first stop in Taiwan being hosted in Kaohsiung. It is estimated that over 3 million people will flock to Glory Pier to witness the charm of the duck.

On the homepage of CNN Travel’s official website, the headline “Giant duck conquers Taiwan” highlights the opportunity and exhibition spectacle of the Yellow Rubber Duck’s arrival in Kaohsiung, featuring two photos provided by the Kaohsiung City Government. The report states that the Yellow Rubber Duck’s exhibition in Kaohsiung is a major event for Taiwan. The super-cute Yellow Rubber Duck, stationed 24 hours a day at Glory Pier, drew 500,000 visitors in just five days. The one-month exhibition, running until October 20, is expected to generate over NT$1 billion in tourism revenue.

Lai Jui-long told CNN reporters that the 18-meter-tall Yellow Rubber Duck is entirely Made in Taiwan (MIT), exceeding Hofman’s specifications, and can be fully inflated in just 7 minutes. The city government team and relevant technical personnel have prepared emergency measures for various scenarios, especially knowing that the Yellow Rubber Duck had encountered minor technical issues during exhibitions in Hong Kong and Beijing. Therefore, every aspect has been tested at least three times to ensure the duck’s safety during the exhibition period. In the future, the city government team will also share experiences and techniques with other Taiwanese cities hosting the exhibition, continuing to spread the message of love and peace embodied by the duck.
