MRT Xinyi Line Opens: Top Entertainment Hotspots Loved by Hong Kong and Japanese Tourists

From November 24 to December 23, for a period of one month, travel on the newly opened section between Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station and Xiangshan Station will be free of charge when using an EasyCard. In addition, in conjunction with the opening of the Xinyi Line, the original “Taipei Electric Power Building Station–Beitou Station” operating route has been adjusted to “Xiangshan Station–Beitou Station,” entering and exiting via the Zhonghe Line, Taipei Electric Power Building Station, and Guting Station (excluding Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station). For passengers traveling between the northern part of the Tamsui Line’s National Taiwan University Hospital Station up to Beitou Station (including Xinbeitou Station), the discounted fare with an EasyCard will be reduced from 20% off to 30% off during the promotional period.

 

The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall is a memorial building erected in honor of the late President of the Republic of China, Chiang Kai-shek. The main structure covers an area of approximately 15,000 square meters. In addition to the solemn main building, it also includes the classically styled National Theater and National Concert Hall (collectively known as the “Two Theaters”) on both sides, exuding a majestic aura. Aside from regularly hosting cultural and artistic events, the spacious galleries and performance spaces inside the main hall frequently hold exhibitions or host foreign dignitaries. The extended plaza boulevard, surrounding corridors, Guanghua Pond, and Yunhan Pond form an expansive Chinese-style garden, which serves as a leisure spot for Taipei residents in the early morning and on holidays. It often also functions as a gathering place for mass movements and venues for large-scale cultural events.

Centered around Yongkang Park, the Yongkang Street Night Market spans Yongkang Street and Lishui Street. Though it’s a small night market, it features unique international cuisines, distinctive shops, and cafes that are rare in other night markets. The original Din Tai Fung branch at the corner of Yongkang Street, serving its signature steaming hot xiaolongbao with thin wrappers and delicious fillings, is a must-visit culinary landmark on the food maps of many international tourists coming to Taipei.

Da’an Forest Park is Taipei’s first forest-themed park and the city’s largest in terms of area. The park is divided into several zones: a strip of dense woodland, a palm grove, a banyan tree area, and a red leaf area. With its lush greenery, it’s a favorite spot for urban dwellers to enjoy forest bathing and breathe in phytoncides, earning it the nickname “the lungs of the city.” Additionally, the park includes forest trails, a children’s play area, an outdoor music stage, and rest areas, with occasional performances held at the music stage.

Located between Section 4 of Xinyi Road and Section 2 of Keelung Road, Tonghua Night Market (also known as Linjiang Night Market) may not be as large as others, but it offers a complete range of street food, trendy clothing, and great-value goods—making it a popular spot for office workers and students to grab a bite, shop, or pick up outfits in the evening.
