Yellow Rubber Duck, Yuan Zai’s Rival? Teddy Bear Taichung Happy Festival Is Super Healing

Aside from the Yellow Rubber Duck and Yuan Zai, Taiwan’s animal stars this year now include teddy bears too. Themed “Teddy Bears Meet the City,” and guided by the Taichung City Government while organized by the Taiwan Teddy Bear Association, the “2013 Teddy Bear Taichung Happy Festival” will kick off on November 28 in Taichung, featuring an indoor and outdoor exhibition lasting over a month. Internationally renowned Taiwanese designer Xiao Qingyang has also created an exclusive themed bear for the event. The exhibition combines art creations with local industries, unfolding at Taichung’s Autumn Valley, Grass Road, City Hall Plaza, and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi exhibition spaces.

 

 

 

This event has partnered with the high-speed rail to offer a 2-person combo ticket package that includes a 30% discount on round-trip standard class tickets for two, plus two event admission tickets and one Q-version Happy Bear (only available for pairs, must be purchased or refunded as a set). Multiple hotels and guesthouses in Taichung—including Taiyuan Silks Place, National Taiwan Hotel, Fuhwa Grand Hotel, Yuyuan Garden Hotel, Yongfeng Inn, Sunlight Hot Spring Resort, Mulan, and Lakeshore—have collaborated with the Taiwan Teddy Bear Association. Not only have they adopted large teddy bear installation artworks exclusive to their properties, but they’ve also launched teddy bear-themed rooms, featuring oversized teddy bear plush toys and related items that are irresistibly cute—perfect for couples and families. The Taichung Pastry Business Association has also initiated a campaign where bakeries adopt teddy bears and develop handmade teddy bear desserts, offering teddy bear cakes, cookies, and more. Coffee shops are also getting creative, using milk foam to draw teddy bear patterns, crafting a rich array of teddy bear-themed treats. Additionally, leading domestic telecom company Chunghwa Telecom has joined the teddy bear festival with the “Teddy Run” online campaign. Starting December 1, the top 150 participants with the most accumulated mileage will have a chance to win a “Big Teddy Bear” as well as a teddy bear designed by renowned Japanese teddy bear artist Masaya Satou.
