13 Bus Joyrides: Slow Travel Scenery from Your Window Seat

Transportation Bureau Director Zhao Shaolian stated that New Taipei City has 558 bus routes with an extensive and well-connected network. In the past, buses were mostly seen as commuter vehicles with a relatively fixed ridership. To boost bus usage and attract new passengers, the bureau has specially collaborated with Taiwan’s leading travel media brand, “Cite Publishing Group – Moleskine Moleskine Publishing,” to produce the first travel-themed book focused on bus-strolling tourism. It is also the first comprehensive travel guide that includes precious historical records, the evolution process, and a chronological timeline of major events in the development of bus services across Greater Taipei.

Zhao Shaolian said that with the assistance of the New Taipei City Public Bus Transport Business Association, a collaboration has been formed with 13 bus companies: “Taipei Metro, Evergreen, Guide, Hsin Hsing, Chung Hsing, Sanchong, Keelung, Da Nan, Tamsui, Capital, New Taipei, Kuo Kuang, and Taipei” bus operators. Together, they have introduced 13 classic bus travel routes in New Taipei City, helping people better understand how to explore the city by bus. The book also thoughtfully includes four complimentary bus ticket sections. By cutting them out in advance and presenting them along with the book upon boarding, passengers can ride one section (15 NTD) for free. The vouchers are valid until March 31, 2014. Note that the Kuo Kuang bus route 1811 [Taipei–Ludong], which operates on a distance-based fare system, is excluded from this offer; the discount applies to the other 12 routes.

 

The Department of Transportation stated that the “New Taipei Commuters” Facebook fan page will also hold a “Roaming New Taipei, Let’s Take the Bus on a Trip” comment-and-share lucky draw event from December 2 to December 23. By joining the fan page, visiting the event webpage, leaving a comment: “Slow Travel Scenery in Motion, the New Taipei (New Taipei attraction) I most want to visit by bus!!”, and publicly sharing it on Facebook, participants can enter the draw.
