The Golden Horse Award-winning 2013 Best Film "Ilo Ilo" is based on a true story and marks the first feature-length drama by acclaimed director Anthony Chen, who has garnered international attention at numerous film festivals. The film tells the story of Jiale (played by Koh Jia Ler), an intelligent and clever child, but his mischievous behavior makes him a headache for the school. Jiale’s pregnant mother (played by Yeo Yann Yann) is busy juggling work and household chores, and amidst her hectic schedule, she remains helpless when receiving complaints about Jiale from his school. Eventually, she decides to hire Filipino maid Teresa (played by Angeli Bayani) to help with housework and take care of Jiale.

A self-proclaimed singing school. Wu Fada, the owner of a char siu shop in the village, became obsessed with singing competitions over twenty years ago and neglected his wife, causing her to leave heartbroken. Until Taiwan’s champion song king Gao Zhongfeng arrives in the village, sweeping through all the local singers just to force his longtime rival Wu Fada, who’s been silent for years, back on stage. They bet on the whereabouts of Wu Fada’s long-lost wife, setting a vocal showdown on Qixi Festival.
Wu Fada suffers from long-term lung disease and falls into a coma before the competition. Bone, lost in his rock creations, is awakened by his sister’s words and learns that his father hid the past just to keep him from giving up on his music dream. He then decides to take up his father’s mantle and vows to win the competition for his father—and the answer to his mother’s whereabouts.
