This year’s Taipei New Year’s Eve celebration will not only feature live connections with Japan’s Kohaku Uta Gassen and a concert by Masaharu Fukuyama, but the iconic fireworks show will also have a unique twist—Spider-Man will take on the crucial role of igniting the fireworks from Taipei City Hall, and the event will be livestreamed online, counting down to the brand-new year of 2014 with audiences around the world.

The 4-meter-tall, 350-kilogram Spider-Man statue will be placed on a 12-meter-high themed platform, complementing the stage of the New Year’s Eve gala and appearing as if it’s guarding the crowd, exuding great presence. This time, Spider-Man has also been given the important task of starting the Taipei 101 fireworks. After the countdown reaches zero, a beam will shoot from his hand toward Taipei 101, triggering the fireworks display.

In addition, Spider-Man will also make an appearance at New York’s Times Square New Year’s Eve event, participating in the famous crystal ball drop ceremony. All the giant screens in Times Square will exclusively premiere exciting clips of Spider-Man battling Electro in Times Square, giving viewers an early sneak peek.
