The Meinong Hot Air Balloon Festival Kicks Off a Colorful Flower Season Lasting Until End of February

The day before yesterday at dawn, in the heart of Meinong’s expansive flower field area by Zhongzheng Lake, a manned hot air balloon slowly ascended, hovering at an altitude of 60 meters for about six minutes, offering a breathtaking view of the vast flower seas and the installation art scattered throughout the fields. After taking in the panoramic views of Zhongzheng Lake, it landed safely. This inaugural hot air balloon flight in Meinong coincided with the opening ceremony of the flower season. The hot air balloon ride was a one-day-only experience on the opening day, while the Meinong Flower Sea viewing season will continue until the end of February.

Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chu noted that Meinong, Shanlin, Liouguei, and Jiasian districts are perfect weekend getaways as the city’s “back gardens.” The hardworking farmers here grow clean and delicious fruits and vegetables. Meinong specialties such as orange-honey-flavored tomatoes, white radishes, green wild lotus, Meinong rice, and red bean gift boxes are top choices for visitors. Civil Affairs Bureau Director Tseng Tzu-wen also mentioned that since last year, Meinong, Shanlin, and Liouguei have been integrated into a unified “three-in-one, uniquely charming” tourism zone, creating a cohesive flower sea concept that has become a nationally popular destination. Among the three areas, Meinong alone boasts 40 hectares of flower fields. From now until the end of February, visitors can enjoy the flower seas, pick fruits from orchards, savor Hakka cuisine, and experience the cultural charm of Meinong’s Hakka villages.
