Kaohsiung Lantern Festival is 8 days away — small lanterns “Happy Horse” to be given out in 2 phases

 

The Kaohsiung Lantern Festival, along with the Taiwan Lantern Festival and Taipei Lantern Festival, is one of the three major lantern festivals in the country, attracting the public every year with continuous innovation. This year, the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival has another new initiative.From the lighting ceremony on January 28 to February 23, in addition tothree mountain lantern areas—Qishan, Gangshan, and Foguangshanscattered across different locations, the urban area of Kaohsiung will also be decorated with various fun-themed lanterns in areas such as the Sanchong Shopping District, Wufu Shopping District, and both sides of the Love River. The trees along Xin Guang Road, Zhongshan Road (from Xin Guang Road to Formosa Boulevard Station), Wufu Road (from Lin Sen Road to the Love River), and Chenggong Road (from Sanchong Road to the Exhibition Center) will also be adorned into a sea of happiness.

 

Among them, four sets totaling 11 Baroque-style classical art lantern gates standing at the north-south transportation hub at the intersection of Sanchong Road and Zhongshan Road, as well as tech-cool, parent-child fairy tale, peace-prayer, and fashion-trendy floats and lanterns—such as the auspicious and peaceful Foguangshan lanterns, Transformers, the whimsical combination of Alice and the rabbit, the world’s first Kaohsiung Songjiang Battle Formation, the global return journey of purple crow butterflies to Kaohsiung, the migrating schools of fish with the tides, the witness of love in light, and the dazzling fireworks over the Love River—will integrate roadside decorations, technology, light, and fireworks to showcase Kaohsiung’s sightseeing cuisine, shopping districts and industries, lifestyle fashion, childhood tradition, street views and architecture, transport and accommodation, and local characteristics.

 

Mayor Chen Chu said the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival lights the way, guiding the public to see more new perspectives of Kaohsiung’s mountains, seas, rivers, and harbors. For example, strolling along the “Bar Street” food stalls on Xin Guang Road toward the 85 Sky Tower and New Guang Pier, you’ll see the vision of Kaohsiung’s maturing Asian New Bay Area, with the beautiful World Trade Exhibition Center shining like silver waves before your eyes.

 

Mayor Chen Chu also introduced this year’s small lantern “Happy Horse.” Kaohsiung has pioneered this year by designing the small lanterns as a pair of horses in pink and powder blue, decorated with Hakka floral fabric and cute paulownia flowers, full of childlike retro charm. They convey the two major spirits of the Kaohsiung Lantern Festival — “love” and “happiness” — going hand in hand. The cheerful and adorable Happy Horses will be given out at fixed points to the public.The small lantern collection time is at 5:00 PM on February 8 at the Zhongshan Sanchong Service Desk, Hedong Wufu Service Desk, Gangshan Riverside Park, and Qishan Railway Station for the public to queue and collect; and at 5:00 PM on February 14 at the Zhongshan Sanchong Service Desk for the public to queue and collect.There are 2 collection periods, with a limit of 2 lanterns per person, while supplies last.
