Since its first edition in 1979, the Australian Gold Coast Marathon has been held 35 times and has received the IAAF Road Race Gold Label certification starting in 2014, establishing it as a world-class international marathon event. It is the first road marathon in the Southern Hemisphere to receive such recognition, ranking alongside the New York Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, and Berlin Marathon. The 36th edition of the event will take place on July 5–6, 2014, featuring a full marathon, half marathon, 10 km race, 5.7 km challenge (run or walk), and 4 km and 2 km family races, with an expected 30,000 participants.

Gold Coast is a renowned holiday destination that attracts a large number of tourists every year. As a result, the marathon route has been carefully designed so runners can enjoy numerous beautiful beaches and famous landmarks along the way, including Southport, Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broad Beach, Mermaid Beach, Miami Beach, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Jupiter’s Casino, Sea World, Q1 Tower, and the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. In the city, the iconic Q1 Building, once the tallest residential tower in the world, features the SkyPoint Observation Deck on the 77th and 78th floors, providing a 360-degree panoramic view of the entire Gold Coast—truly spectacular. You can also try surfing to experience the local beach culture, take a seaplane ride for a bird’s-eye view of this stunning waterfront city, or enjoy a romantic sunset champagne cruise in the evening. Registration for the 2014 Gold Coast Marathon is now open. The registration period runs from now until 8:00 PM on July 4, with early bird registration closing at midnight on May 21. All times are based on Australian Eastern Standard Time.
