The “Illuminating Taichung – Prefectural Hall Light Show” regularly airs every Saturday evening from 7 to 9 PM at Utsunomiya Prefectural Hall. Using spectacular 3D light art, it narrates the century-long legacy of Utsunomiya Prefectural Hall. In its classic version, various seasonal segments such as the “New Year Greeting Edition” and “Mazu Legend Edition” have been shown successively. Following the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the “Dragon Boat Festival Blessing Edition,” with a storyline of about four minutes, will be unveiled.

Based on the long-standing folk legends of the Dragon Boat Festival, Utsunomiya Prefectural Hall is transformed into the Leifeng Pagoda surrounded by white snakes. The twelve Earthly Branches float and rotate with a futuristic vibe, and colorful surprises dance along with the music. Through traditional Dragon Boat Festival activities such as mugwort, realgar wine, warding off the five poisonous creatures, standing eggs at noon, zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), and dragon boat racing—all symbolizing the expulsion of evil and the avoidance of disaster—the show delivers blessings for warding off evil and plague during the festival.

The 3D light show “Dragon Boat Festival Blessing Edition” at Utsunomiya Prefectural Hall will be screened starting May 31 through early July, offering citizens a festive celebration rich in traditional cultural heritage. Everyone is welcome to visit Utsunomiya Prefectural Hall on Saturday evenings to enjoy this “exclusively in Taichung” artistic extravaganza.
