In early summer, the Pier-2 Art Center has specially curated the , introducing high-quality Taiwanese woodcraft through a sales exhibition format, bringing a unique cool green touch to the season. The exhibition runs from May 23 to June 2, with uniquely designed pet furniture particularly catching the public’s eye, displayed and sold in Warehouses C6 and C7 of the Dàyì Area at Pier-2.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau noted that in recent years, contemporary woodworking crafts have attracted more and more craftsmen to engage in wood creation, driven by the public’s pursuit of quality living and a return to pure, natural trends, which has also rekindled appreciation and love for woodcraft, gradually forming a lifestyle-oriented cultural trend. The at Pier-2 this time invites 11 distinctive and representative high-quality Taiwanese woodworking brands, including “Ichirou Woodcraft,” “Gandan Innovation,” “Chumu Studio,” “Maizi Wood Workshop,” “Shentuo Woodworking,” “Lele Wood,” “HAPPY WOOD Woodjoy Museum,” “MUYU Woodyu Design,” “OUI design Micro Design,” “viithe LeKuo,” and “WKidea,” to exhibit together. Against the backdrop of the red-brick walls and harbor views of the Dàyì Warehouses at Pier-2, they showcase the beautiful texture of life shaped by the intersection of art culture and woodworking craftsmanship.

The woodworking brands featured in this exhibition embody life emotions, beliefs, ideals, and exquisite skills in wood-based creations. This includes “Ichirou Woodcraft” and “Lele Wood,” which root their work in the history of Taiwan’s traditional woodworking industry, infusing emotions and memories of the craft into their creations, thereby presenting modern values and appearances. Another example is wood creations derived from the core theme of “A ! 1u Home,” such as those by “viithe LeKuo,” which designs around the dining room scene at home, “Chumu Studio” focusing on pet furniture, and various furniture pieces by “Maizi Wood Workshop.” The pursuit of inheriting, reviving, and refining woodworking techniques is also a vital aspect of contemporary woodcraft. For instance, “Gandan Innovation” transforms traditional mortise-and-tenon techniques into playful and interactive works; “Shentuo Woodworking” incorporates elements of time, memory, and emotion into craftsmanship; while “WKidea” seeks the perfect harmony between natural wood and machinery. Returning to the primal imagination and feelings that wood brings us, “HAPPY WOOD Woodjoy Museum” designs wood creations with nature as the original intention, “OUI design Micro Design” liberates wood from conventional forms, and “MUYU Woodyu Design” cherishes leftover wood and gives it new life—also opening up more possibilities for contemporary wood creation.

Kaohsiung’s Pier-2 Special Zone will launch a wood products-themed exhibition, featuring not only uniquely designed goods but also the joy of hands-on creation and making personal items. In contemporary times, under the trend of pursuing genuine life quality and returning to pure, natural elements, woodworking craftsmanship has entered our daily lives. Through in-depth study of wood materials, the inheritance and revival of crafting techniques, and the innovation of woodworking shapes and functions, more possibilities for wood creation are unlocked, forming a new lifestyle trend. Compared to mass production methods using plastic, molds, and standardized specifications, woodworking carries a human warmth and natural grain, giving each piece character and uniqueness.

The runs from May 23 to June 2, 2014 (Year 103 in Taiwan), with some participating units offering on-site sales services during weekends. This exhibition is held in Warehouses C6 and C7 of the Dàyì Area at Pier-2, bringing creative and innovative high-quality wood pieces to early summer. This exhibition aims to introduce local Taiwanese woodworking brands, combining exhibitions, sales, and hands-on activities to deliver a refreshing green mood under the blue sky and sea.
