Tsumabuki Satoshi first rose to fame in 2001 with his leading role in Waterboys, where his natural and nuanced acting received widespread acclaim and earned him multiple Best Actor awards both domestically and internationally. His performance in Villain & Angel swept numerous Best Actor accolades that year, including the Japan Academy Awards and the Japan Blue Ribbon Awards, establishing him as a representative of Japan’s contemporary leading male actors. Notable films include Waterboys, Nada Sousou, The Spring Snow, The Magic Hour, and Love and Honor. Following Tokyo Family, he collaborates once again with Yoji Yamada in Memoirs of a Tokyo House, crafting yet another deeply moving tale of love and family.
Memoirs of a Tokyo House is Yoji Yamada’s 82nd work and the first love-themed film in his nearly fifty-year directing career. Actress Matsushima Nanako plays the young and beautiful Hirai Tokiko, while her husband Hirai Masaki is portrayed by kabuki actor Kataoka Takataro. Kuroki Haru and Baishou Chieko play the young and elderly versions of the Hirai family’s maid, Fukiya Taki, respectively.
