Japan’s Ōigawa Railway in Shizuoka Prefecture has launched a steam train designed to look like "Thomas the Tank Engine." A recent trial run attracted many tourists, locals, and media, and the train is expected to attract many railway enthusiasts and fans of Thomas the Tank Engine when it officially begins operations on July 12.

"Thomas the Tank Engine" is a British children's animated series that has enjoyed high global recognition since its TV debut in 1980, known to both adults and children. The Ōigawa Railway Company also hopes that the introduction of this Thomas-themed steam train will help improve the railway's operations. During the three-month run, tickets have nearly sold out, demonstrating how well the charm of the steam train combines with the appeal of Thomas the Tank Engine.

The Thomas the Tank Engine steam train mainly runs between Shin-Kanaya and Senzu stations, operating from July 12 to October 12. This themed train previously ran in the UK and is making its first appearance in Asia, specifically in Japan, which has generated significant buzz. During the event period, a Thomas-themed railway bento box was also introduced. Riding the Thomas-themed steam train paired with the matching bento creates a satisfying railway travel experience for both railway enthusiasts and fans of Thomas the Tank Engine.
