The previously two disconnected sections of the Shizi Island riverside bike path in Taipei have now been completed, making the Taipei riverside cycling route even more comprehensive. Cycling around Shizi Island allows you to enjoy the beautiful mangrove scenery nearby, as well as the rich wetland ecology such as fiddler crabs and Kandelia obovata. Arriving here at dusk and admiring the sunset over Guandu while riding with the evening breeze is truly delightful.

The Shizi Island riverside bike path was previously interrupted by two gaps, which meant cyclists had to ride on inner embankment roads and share the road with vehicles, constantly entering and exiting the embankment areas, causing much inconvenience. Now that dedicated bike lanes have been built in these gaps, the entire Shizi Island bike path has been fully connected, spanning nearly 9 kilometers in total, with a full loop taking about one hour.

Shizi Island is located at the confluence of the Keelung River and the Tamsui River, featuring a sandy terrain. The area is filled with stretches of rice paddies and lush vegetable gardens, showcasing the simple and rustic beauty of traditional rural villages. The island utilizes its elevated dike to construct a bike path, attracting many cycling enthusiasts. At the sandy tail of Shizi Island, you can witness the powerful convergence of the Keelung and Tamsui Rivers. Arriving in the evening also allows you to admire the sunset over Guandu.

To the south, the route connects with the left bank bike path near Bai Ling Bridge, which features numerous large sports fields. It’s common to see both domestic and international teams training there. While cycling, you can also enjoy the lively atmosphere of the open sports plaza. The Erchong Floodway Circular Bike Path stretches 24 kilometers, taking you through park areas via dike-top roads. With various themed riverside green spaces, cyclists can choose their preferred scenery and enjoy a leisurely time pedaling their own relaxed path.
