The 2014 National Day fireworks have been moved to Taichung this year. There will be fireworks displays every day during the three-day holiday. The first two days will be held at the Taichung Harbor area, while the third day is set at the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park. It is estimated that the three-day event will attract 1.2 million visitors and generate at least NT$1.2 billion in business. This year’s National Day fireworks in the Taichung Harbor area were discussed at a preparatory meeting held by the city government the day before. This year’s theme is “Blooming Joy and Blessings.” On the evening of National Day, there will be a 40-minute fireworks show, followed by a gala performance featuring popular singers such as Crowd Lu, Lala Hsu, and Yoga Lin, with electronic music diva Jolin Tsai as the finale act.

The city government emphasized that there will also be a 15-minute fireworks show the night after National Day to extend the festive atmosphere. The fireworks on the second day are funded by donations. The fireworks shows on the 10th and 11th will both be heldat the northeast side of the Taichung Harbor Power Plant’s large chimney. The Qingshui Rest Area and Aofengshan Observation Deck are both excellent spots to view the fireworks.On the third day,at the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park,fireworks originally planned for Dadaocheng in Taipei but canceled due to the Kaohsiung gas explosion—and later donated by Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin—will be launched. During the National Day holiday, visitors will be able to enjoy spectacular fireworks in Taichung for three consecutive days.

Regarding transportation, which is a major concern for visitors, Lin Liang-tai, Director of the Taichung City Government Transportation Bureau, stated that the transportation plan during the fireworks event includes:
● The BRT system will deploy all 50 BRT buses. Travelers can take a bus from Taichung Railway Station to Providence University in approximately 45 to 50 minutes, with an average of one to two buses per minute. Passengers can then transfer to a shuttle bus at Providence University to reach the Taichung Harbor fireworks viewing area.
