In 2013, the Kaohsiung City Government Tourism Bureau transformed an underutilized space in front of the Shoushan Martyrs' Shrine into a green, love-themed leisure platform where visitors can gaze out over the beautiful cityscape. Since its opening, it has attracted numerous domestic and international tourists and has become one of Kaohsiung’s most iconic attractions. To better meet the needs of more visitors,the Lovers' Observation Deck underwent a one-month renovation and reopened on October 1.

Situated at a prime viewing spot in Shoushan, the Lovers' Observation Deck offers sweeping vistas of the urban area and the harbor. It draws many visitors both day and night, especially couples who come in the evening to enjoy the night scenery and romantic moments. The Tourism Bureau has specially designed this place as a top choice for couples’ dates and wedding photo shoots, installing romantic art installations such as the “LOVE Megaphone” and three macaque sculptures symbolizing different stages of love — pursuit, passion, and union. Due to the limited capacity of the original space and the difficulty of maintaining trampled lawns and flowers, the Tourism Bureau allocated a budget for redevelopment. The original stone-paved pathways were relaid and expanded to provide more room for photography and sightseeing. Distinctive spherical garden plants such as Murraya paniculata and Camellia sinensis were planted as hedges, along with roses that evoke romantic imagery, creating a sweet and intimate atmosphere. With this stylish makeover, it aims to become an international-grade tourist attraction in Kaohsiung.
