Freezing temps across Taiwan！Snowfall in multiple mountainous areas – check road conditions if you plan to go snow viewing

Snowfall occurred in mountainous areas including Taipei’s Datun Mountain Range, Taoyuan’s Lalashan Sacred Tree Area, Hsinchu’s Smangus, Yilan’s Mt. Taiping, Hehuan Mountain, and Yushan. Among them, Yilan’s Mt. Taiping National Forest Recreation Area saw snowfall in the early morning of the 3rd. To prevent visitors from being stranded within the park, entry was no longer permitted after 2 PM.

Starting at 7 PM on February 3rd, vehicles heading to Lalashan Sacred Tree Area must be equipped with snow chains to access the mountain. On February 4th, temperatures will reach around 0°C. Aside from vehicles equipped with snow chains, which can park at the Upper Baling Parking Lot, all other vehicles are prohibited from entering. Visitors must walk to the sacred tree area to view the snow. The pre-emptively closed road section is Route 7, from 47K (Lower Baling) to 60K+776 (Xicun).

Yangmingshan also experienced snow mixed with rain around 10 PM on the evening of the 3rd. Temperatures at Yangmingshan were around 4°C that evening. Those planning to head up the mountain for snow viewing should be sure to dress warmly.
