The “2015 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival” will be held in February. The New Taipei City Government’s Tourism and Travel Bureau recently announced the dates for three events,which will take place on February 22 at Jing Tong Elementary School, February 27 at Pingxi Junior High School, and March 5 (Lantern Festival) at Shifen Square.Visitors from around the world are welcome to plan your trips in advance and join us in Pingxi for this year’s most romantic lantern celebration.

The “New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival” is an important annual event during the Chinese Lantern Festival and has been listed by international media as one of the “must-experience” international festivals. In 2015, it officially enters its seventeenth year. Recently, many domestic and international travelers have been inquiring about the event dates. The Tourism Bureau stated that this year’s activities, following past traditions, will feature three prayer lantern ceremonies in the Pingxi District—Jing Tong, Pingxi, and Shifen.Each event is expected to release eight waves of lanterns, with the three events together offering over 3,500 lanterns for the public to release for free.

In Pingxi, aside from releasing sky lanterns, you can also visit the recently renovated and now free-to-enter Shifen Waterfall, known as the “Niagara Falls of Taiwan,” whose majestic power continues to amaze and has drawn large crowds of visitors. Coupled with the beautiful mountainous scenery along the Pingxi Branch Line, the nostalgic charm of the old railway, the culturally rich alleys, and the hidden-gem allure of Lingjiao and Wanggu Stations, this year’s Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival not only offers the moving experience of hundreds of lanterns taking flight, but also invites travelers from around the world to enjoy the charm of this beautiful mountain town.
