On cold days, wouldn’t it be nice to have a warm bowl of soup and cooked food when taking the train home from work? This small wish can be fulfilled in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Starting November 13, 2015, Toyohashi reintroduced the “Mobile Train Stall,” which travels back and forth along city tracks. Inside the carriage, local specialty chikuwa oden is served, along with the ever-popular Japanese beer. There are also bento boxes available for those who are hungry, allowing passengers to enjoy a lively atmosphere of drinks and good company while taking in the city scenery.

The interior design of the “Mobile Train Stall” differs from regular trains. It features long rows of tables and chairs, adorned with red lanterns and curtains. Paired with warm oden and beer, passengers in high spirits can even sing karaoke using the built-in karaoke system, turning the ride into a joyful experience akin to being in an izakaya. The total 9.6 km journey takes over an hour and is guaranteed to be lively and fulfilling.
