Plum blossoms are in full bloom on Keping Mountain—enjoy a delightful picnic trip in Taoyuan

After several cold fronts, plum blossoms across Taiwan have gradually come into full bloom. The blossoms on Keping Mountain and at Shimen Reservoir in Taoyuan’s Fuxing District are now in full flower, creating a beautiful spectacle that has drawn visitors from all over. This year, the Taoyuan City Tourism Bureau has specially set up a picnic area on Keping Mountain and introduced plum-flavored lunch boxes, allowing visitors to enjoy both the flower viewing and the fun of a picnic. Not far from Keping Mountain, you can also visit Shimen Reservoir to admire maple leaves, plum blossoms, and cherry blossoms, soaking in the uniquely beautiful scenery of early spring—truly a delightful experience.

The Keping Mountain Guesthouse is located on the plateau of Keping Mountain in Fuxing District. Originally the guesthouse of former President Chiang Kai-shek, the site covers about 6 hectares, with 3 hectares planted with plum trees. The over 200 plum trees include some personally planted by Madame Chiang and others planted by soldiers of the Nationalist Army. These 40- to 50-year-old plum trees give off an especially fragrant aroma. In addition to offering dishes such as char siu made with plum juice and roasted king oyster mushrooms with plum vinegar—both made from locally sourced organic "Sixin" plums—the venue also serves Indigenous-style Makai vegetable hot pot during the flowering season. The light-tasting hot pot allows you to enjoy the natural sweetness of the vegetables, paired with the beautiful scenery of Keping Mountain for a truly delightful experience.
