A cold wave may bring snowfall; Yangmingshan initiates snow traffic control

A strong continental cold air mass is exerting its influence. According to forecasts by the Central Weather Bureau, February 3rd to 5th will be the period when the cold air mass has the strongest impact, with the entire island affected by the cold wave. Due to low temperatures and ample moisture, the snowfall altitude may also be lowered. It is estimated that high-altitude mountains around 1,000 meters in northern and northeastern Yangmingshan will have a chance to see snowy scenery.

To ensure traffic safety and smooth flow during snowfall in Yangmingshan, and to manage the large number of visitors heading up the mountain to view the snow, Yangmingshan has announced that traffic controls will be implemented at that time. Visitors wishing to go up the mountain to see the snow must present a “Yangde Boulevard Pass” to enter the Yangmingshan area via Yangde Boulevard. Furthermore, all vehicles traveling to the Yangmingshan area at the controlled points must be equipped with snow chains to proceed.

The snow-controlled areas include Yangjin Highway, Datun Mountain area, Qixing Mountain area, Qidinggang, Lengshuikeng, Zhongshan Building in Yangmingshan, Qianshan Park, and Chinese Culture University, among others. Additionally, visitors without a “Yangde Boulevard Pass” who wish to go up the mountain to view the snow must take alternative routes and install snow chains.

Taipei City’s Department of Rapid Transit Systems will appropriately increase the frequency of bus services in the Yangmingshan area. Visitors heading up the mountain can also take public transportation, which is not only convenient but also safer.
