Foreigners’ top searches in Taiwan revealed – and No. 1 isn’t Taipei 101!

Google has released its “latest Street View most-searched attractions ranking”! It unveils the most-viewed attractions by both global and Taiwanese users on Google Street View. Among foreign users’ most-searched Taiwanese attractions, Taipei 101 unexpectedly dropped off the list, with old streets and outlying island destinations taking up more than half of the rankings, becoming the darlings of foreign users’ eyes when it comes to Taiwanese sights. Meanwhile, in the ranking of foreign attractions most searched by Taiwanese users, Japan claimed the top spot for the second consecutive time as the most-searched region among Taiwanese netizens, with attractions accounting for 70% of the list.

Google stated that according to Google Maps Street View search data, the top three most popular Taiwanese attractions among foreign users are Jiufen Old Street, Taipei Main Station, and Green Island. In this Google ranking, several old streets rich in traditional Taiwanese culture made it into the top 10 most-searched list, including Jiufen Old Street in the north, which has surpassed Taipei Main Station to claim the top spot on the list. Jiufen Old Street is one of the earliest “special attractions” launched by Google in Taiwan’s Street View service. The site itself enjoys high international recognition, and with strong government promotion of tourism, it has accumulated an impressive number of searches from global users. Additionally, Anping Old Street in the south and Lukang Old Street in central Taiwan also reflect the authentic cultural essence of Taiwan, winning widespread favor among foreign users.
