Stroll through a Golden Sea: The Canola Flower Festival at Dajeo Eco Park in South Korea

In April, South Korea not only dazzles with blooming cherry blossoms but also with vibrant yellow canola flower fields. Located along the lower reaches of the Nakdong River in Gijang District, Busan, Dajeo Eco Park has emerged as a popular new tourist destination in recent years. Every April, when the canola flowers are in full bloom and before the autumn maple leaves turn red, the sea of cosmos flowers creates one of the most beautiful sights at Dajeo Eco Park.

Canola flowers and cosmos are among the plants most commonly grown during fallow periods to enrich the soil. As such, in spring you can enjoy vast golden canola fields, while in autumn, swaying cosmos flowers come into view. Since 2012, Busan has held the Nakdong River Canola Flower Festival at Dajeo Eco Park. Although this year’s festival ran from April 11 to 19 and has already ended, the canola flowering period is relatively long, so if you hurry, you can still catch some of the golden splendor. This offers visitors who couldn’t make it for the cherry blossoms a chance to enjoy a different shade of spring in Korea.
