The photo that won the 2016 SkyPixel Aerial Photo of the Year Award was “Fisherman Hauling in the Net,” taken by Zheng Ge. It peacefully and completely captures the daily life of local fishermen, giving viewers a tranquil and healing feeling.

In the professional category, with the theme of “Beauty,” the award-winning works were “Exploration,” “Selfie at the Dam,” and “The Earth.” The first-prize winner, “Exploration,” captured the desert landscape of Yuli County, Bayingolin Prefecture, Xinjiang via aerial photography. A whole caravan of camels looks like a thin line winding across the desert, with their tiny footprints trailing behind, forming meandering tracks.

The second-prize winner, “Selfie at the Dam,” was taken near the photographer’s home. Lying on the walkway and using a drone to take a selfie, the view from above makes it look as if he is lying in a hole in the Earth — a spectacular scene that’s hard to forget. The third-prize winner, “The Earth,” captures the last trace of light before darkness falls, dying the land in a deep blue hue.
