“Tsunoshima” is a small island floating on the “Kyouzan Strait” of the Sea of Japan, located in Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The only connection between the two is the straight Tsunoshima Bridge, resembling a line on a blue canvas, leading to the island floating on endless azure. This stunning view has been selected as one of the must-see world wonders before you die.

This Tsunoshima Bridge was opened at the end of 2000, with a total length of 1,780 meters, located within the National Park of Nothern Nagato Coast. It is the third longest free-access offshore bridge in Japan. On the Yamaguchi Prefecture side, there are vast white sandy beaches accompanied by crystal-clear blue seas, offering breathtaking scenery. Since the bridge was designed to blend with the surrounding landscape, the height of its pillars was specially limited to ensure it doesn’t appear obtrusive visually. From whichever side you look, Tsunoshima Bridge becomes a simple line on a blue canvas, presenting an infinite sense of spatial extension. It has also served as a filming location for many car commercials and Japanese idol dramas.

In the popular Japanese idol drama “HERO Special,” the scene where the main character Takuya Kimura reunites with Takako Matsu to solve a case takes place on Tsunoshima, making the Tsunoshima Bridge a natural pilgrimage site for fans.
