Night View Masters Certified: Japan’s No.1 Winter Illuminations

Every winter, cities across Japan are adorned with dazzling lights, filling the streets with a festive Christmas atmosphere and an extraordinary sense of romance. Recently, Japan’s “night view connoisseurs” selected the best illuminations of 2015, with the “Kingdom of Flowers and Light” at Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki taking the top spot. This marks the third consecutive year that Huis Ten Bosch’s winter illuminations have claimed the championship.

Huis Ten Bosch’s light show has grown more spectacular every year since its inception in 2010. This year, an estimated 13 million bulbs were used to transform the park into the most dazzling destination in all of Japan. This year also features many creatively designed light decorations, including Japan’s tallest “light waterfall” at 66 meters and the “light bungee jump,” both highly anticipated. The park also showcases the “Light and Water Canal,” where water and neon lights come together, as well as 3D light shows—visitors can enjoy them all. The ground is covered in colorful lights, and European-style buildings are illuminated, filling the space with a romantic ambiance that feels like stepping into a dreamlike fantasy.
